Central Iowa Healthcare has retained Aaron L. Hammer, Esq. and Sugar Felsenthal Grais & Hammer LLP as its special healthcare reorganization counsel in its chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding pending before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Iowa.

Central Iowa Healthcare (“CIH”) has engaged Sugar Felsenthal Grais & Hammer (“SFGH”) as its special healthcare reorganization counsel during its chapter 11 reorganization pending before the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Iowa. In this capacity, SFGH is charged with advising and assisting the Debtor in connection with the special and unique legal issues arising from and in connection with a Healthcare Business case as defined in Bankruptcy Code Section 101(27A), such as the transfer of healthcare business assets during the pendency of a bankruptcy case. In this engagement, SFGH has partnered with Jeffery Goetz of Bradshaw, Fowler, Proctor & Fairgrave, P.C. as counsel.

CIH operates a community hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa, located between Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. CIH’s 49-bed, acute care facility is the only full-service medical center in the area. There were 196,087 other outpatient visits in 2015 including 4,131 outpatient surgeries. CIH clinics had 42,171 visits in 2015 up from 39,471 the prior year. CIH employed approximately 500 full- and part-time employees including physicians, nurses, and other clinical and non-clinical employees. As of the petition date, CIH’s assets and liabilities both exceeded $50 million.
